How does tutoring work?
Students or their parents can request tutoring for their classes either by coming to the tutor room in the high school, by responding online, by contacting the Dean of Students, or by contacting the high school counselor's office. Priority for tutoring time will given to students who are struggling to fulfill the requirements of their classes. Students can also be referred for tutoring by classroom teachers who feel that it would be beneficial for some students to have a more individualized approach. When tutoring is requested, the daily schedule of the student is explored to see if they have a study hall time when the tutor is available to take students. If a study hall time exists that would work with everyone's schedule, the student can be assigned to a time to meet with the tutor during their study hall. If the study hall times are filled, the student has the option of signing up for either a before or after school time of tutoring. Those students with study halls can get tutoring times on a first-come, first-served basis prioritized by need. Some tutoring needs can be met by just having a few appointments with the tutor, and other needs require more time. When the tutor feels that the tutoring goals are met each day, the students simply go back to their regularly assigned study halls.
